Sudarsan Pattnaik Will Depict Sand Art On 22nd Asian Athletic Championship

Padma shri and Internationally renowned sand artist Sudarsan Pattnaik, will depict the sand art in inauguration day of 22nd Asian Athletic Championship during the Championship scheduled to be inaugurated here at the capital city on July 5.

The sand art of Sudarsan will highlight Odisha’s rich culture . Sudarsan will also create sand sculptures of the famous athletes in the world. This will be organized by the state sports and youth service department,9 tones of sand is required to make these sculptures, sources said.

Mr Pattnaik has planned to create a miniature of the Sun Temple of Konarak, a world heritage monument. Around nine tonnes of sand would be used to create all these sculptures, said the artist.

“Around four days will be required to complete the entire work. The objective is to make the participants in the international sport event aware of Odisha’s rich culture,” said Mr Pattnaik, who has participated in more than 50 sand art championships and festivals around the world and won many prizes for the country.

Sudarsan Pattnaik had created a Guinness world record by building the world’s tallest sand castle which is 48 feet and 8 inch (14.84 metre) at the Puri beach.
